Voter Registration

 Am I eligible to vote?

In order to vote in any election, a person must be 18 years of age on or before Election Day, a United States citizen, a resident of the municipality for at least 30 days and not incarcerated.

Where do I register to vote?

You can register through a Secretary of State transaction, at your County Clerk's office, at your City Clerk's office or online at Secretary of State Register to Vote at least 15 days prior to an election.  You MUST register in-person at your City Clerk's office if you wish to register 14 days or less before the election.  Your City Clerk's office is open the Saturday prior to each election from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

What is the process to register to vote?

You can complete this form: State of Michigan Form to Register to Vote.  Voters must show proof of residency with items that include the applicant's name and address such as a current utility bill, a bank statement, a paycheck or a government check.  

Can I vote as a student?

All students who are at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day may vote as long as they meet all other eligibility requirements.

  • If you are a resident of Michigan and go to school in Michigan you can register at either address.
  • If you are a resident of Michigan but go to school outside of Michigan, register at your home address to vote in Michigan elections.
  • If you are not a resident of Michigan but go to school here, you may register at your school address to vote in Michigan.
