Mayor’s Office

41st Mayor of Mount Clemens, Mayor Laura Kropp

Mayor Laura Kropp proudly serves as the 41st Mayor of Mount Clemens. Elected in 2019, she is the youngest mayor in the city’s history and only the fourth woman to hold the office. A Mount Clemens resident since 2001, Mayor Kropp has spent more than fifteen years in public service, working to strengthen neighborhoods, improve infrastructure, and invest in the city’s people.

Her public service began in 2009 as a Trustee for the Mount Clemens Community Schools Board of Education. She went on to serve as a City Commissioner from 2015 to 2019 before being elected Mayor. Now in her third term, Mayor Kropp has led Mount Clemens through a period of unprecedented investment and renewal — securing more than $82 million in grants over the past three years, launching the city’s first local roads program in 25 years, and overseeing major infrastructure upgrades including $7 million in wastewater treatment improvements and the city’s new connection to the Great Lakes Water Authority.

Under her leadership, Mount Clemens has also modernized its operations and re-energized community life. The city reopened the Cairns Community Center, reinstated a full-time Recreation Department for the first time since 2007, and expanded programming for seniors, youth, and families. The city has also increased transparency and engagement through a redesigned website, a revitalized city newsletter, and monthly Coffee Talks with the Mayor, held twice each month — at John’s Family Grill and Black Cat Coffee — where residents are encouraged to share ideas and concerns directly.

Mayor Kropp is deeply committed to inclusion, equity, and representation in local government. She has championed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training for all city staff and commissioners and has prioritized diverse resident appointments to boards and commissions. She is also a strong supporter of local arts and culture, partnering with organizations such as the Anton Art Center, The Crocker House Museum, and Turning Point to enrich the civic and cultural life of Mount Clemens.

Outside City Hall, Mayor Kropp and her husband Paul own and operate a local cabinetry business in downtown Mount Clemens. Together, they have invested both personally and professionally in the community they love. They live in Mount Clemens with their children and enjoy family time, cooking, and boating on Lake St. Clair.

Mayor Kropp believes that Mount Clemens is a city on the rise — one that thrives when its residents, businesses, and leaders work together to build a stronger, more connected community for the future.
