Collection of stormwater is an important responsibility of the City of Mount Clemens. The City maintains storm sewer infrastructure ranging from local street drainage to large diameter collection pipes. In Mount Clemens, most stormwater is collected in catch basins and makes its way into the Clinton River. The City also maintains approximately stormwater outfalls to the Clinton River and Greiner Drain. These surface water discharges are permitted by the State of Michigan by a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Storm Water permit.
How can you help?
- Never sweep or blow leaves into a storm drain.
- Use proper methods to dispose or recycle leaves.
- Take used oil to a certified used oil collection center.
- Follow directions on pesticides and fertilizers and avoid application when rain is forecasted.
- Pick up pet waste and dispose of it properly to keep bacteria and parasites out of our groundwater and lakes.
The City of Mount Clemens partners with the Clinton River Watershed Council (CWRC) to provide stormwater education opportunities to the public. CRWC provides community programming, K-12 education, citizen-science programs, educational resources, stewardship events, and more as part of the Stormwater Education Program.
